
Born to Dr. and Mrs. Annapurna Sarang, the younger sibling of Rachna Sarang the two
girls were nurtured on a diet of democratic discipline, protection and a rigorous dose of training in aesthetics. They could not help, but shine as the Sarang sisters.
Born of aristocratic gentry birthdays of the Sarang sisters were ushered by patronizing home performances by stalwarts like Late Ali Akbar Khansahab, Pt. Jasraj, Rahis Khan, Late Protima Bedi, Late Shobha Gurtu, Kishori Amonkar, Shri K. Mahavir, Sitara Devi, Late Devilalji, and Late Durgalalji, Obviously the Sarang sisters did not escape the onslaught and the influence that this environment had on them, Schooled at Walsingham House and wanting to be a lawyer, her moorings led her to the path of her eventful journey. She was straightforward, frank; always cheerful her lifestyle personified a biend of rootedness and self-principles.
Madhurita Sarang learned the great art from all the three schools of Kathak under the great maestros, Late Pandit Shanker Prasadji, Late Lachu Maharaj, Late Pandit Chaube Maharaj and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Mahara. What is greatly surprising is that she also (apart from Kathak) was trained in the rigours of Bharat Natyam as well. Her Gurus being Late Shri Chandra Sekhar Pillai, and Guru Kalaynsundaram of the Bharat Natya Kala Mandir, Mumbai.
It is noteworthy to mention some of her extremely well received and awesome performances at the world famous Alice Tully Hall Linconl Center, New York, USA. She was the first unrivalled kathak artist to have performed at the 2nd world percussion panorama along with the well-known singer Late Shobha Gurtu.
Her sister Rachna Sarang has carved a niche for herself in the US. The Sarang sisters journeyed together in childhood as partners in life as well as dance. They fused all their experiences with the changing times, it would also suffice to mention that she has performed and toured the entire length and breadth of America. She has also performed in countries like Brazil, London, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, Japan, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and many other places in the world.
